Medical Device
Human Factors & Usability

We have years of experience designing and implementing human factors/usability engineering programs for medical device development.

We are well-versed in the regulatory requirements of IEC 62366-1 and the U.S. FDA. Considerations include whether it is a new or legacy device, the device class (I, II, or III), known use errors, and level of risk.

Usability Testing

Iteratively testing and getting feedback from users on prototypes is essential to designing a good experience. We have deep experience planning, moderating, and analyzing usability tests at every stage of the development process.

Whether it’s a cognitive walkthrough using “paper prototypes” or a validation test of a market-ready product, we understand how to conduct usability evaluations to yield the most value for your investment.

We are highly-trained moderators with experience conducting in-person and remote testing for both digital and physical products ranging from enterprise software to mobile apps; hemodialysis machines to pen-injectors.

Sprints & Workshops

We love to empower teams with the human-centered design process and accelerate their innovation cycles by leading design sprints or workshops! We are skilled facilitators and have taught on a variety of topics including Design Thinking, user research methods, and Human Factors. 

​Popular sprint and workshop formats include:

  • 5-day Design Sprint: Based on Google Ventures' signature process, you will define a target problem on Monday, and end with collecting customer feedback on a realistic prototype by Friday!

  • Half- or full-day Design Thinking workshop: A hands-on crash course in the methods and mindsets of Design Thinking, pioneered by IDEO. You will learn how to solve problems the human-centered way through five steps: Empathize, Define, Ideate, Protoype, Test.

  • Intro to User Research methods: In as little as 2 hours, we'll introduce a variety of user / customer research methods, and explain when and how to conduct each to gain valuable insights.
